Beware of Debt Relief Scams

There are many companies offering debt relief scams to make more money for themselves. This is a really unfortunate condition because there are many people who face financial troubles need some kind of deft relief program. However, instead of helps, they find more problems. These debt relief scams promise to reduce debts and keep creditors at bay, but they are taking advantage of your condition and making your financial condition even worse.

Some debt relief scams are truly a bogus. They take money from you and then basically do nothing. They never pay to your creditors as promised, which make your creditors keep calling you all the time. Normally they set up a fake internet portal and just disappear as soon as it gets money from you. They change their website every week and keep themselves anonymous.

These debt relief scams usually accept payments only in the form of cash or money order because debit or credit card has a tracking capability. They insist to get money in cash by explaining that in their business this approach will cut costs and keep the service fee as minimum as possible.

Some debt relief scams actually do something for you. They will contact the creditors and inform that they are your representatives and negotiate lower payments. You will receive the benefit of making one payment to them and they will send the payment to the creditors. This sounds good, but their service fee is incredulously high. It may even reach 50% of the monthly payment where that money actually should be used to relieve your debt even further.

In this case, your debt is perhaps being reduced, but the debt relief scams also get richer by charging you a very high fee. Let's see an example, if you have 10 creditors and you pay $200 to this scam company, they will keep $100 for themselves and thus each of your creditors will only receive $10 per month. With this scenario, depending on the total amount of the debt, you may need an extremely long time to pay off all the debts.

Another type of debt relief scams involves selling information about where you should go to get government grants or debt relief. Unfortunately, when you visit the US government or state government website, you will realize that there is no such thing offered by the government. The scam company sells you a CD and a monthly subscription on how to apply for government grants that are not real or you will most likely not qualify to receive.
